‘Honey, not tonight’, this is what I call the epitome of ignorance.

If only all men and women would know the benefits of quality sex to life, then they would do anything and everything to maintain it. The second part of this statement is as important as the first. After all, many of us who know that they stand to benefit a lot from a quality sex life, still find it very illusive as they are dogged with stressors such as too much of work, traffic, debts, parenting, poor communication in marriage and eventually the last nail on the coffin quality sex is from the age related loss of libido.

Strangely enough, it is those who have been licensed to have sex, I mean the married couples, who have even more difficulty having sex, let alone having quality sex. In fact, studies have shown that more than 90% of married couples do not have sex once a month! Yet sex is an important ingredient to quality life, both for the spouses and children that we should not neglect. The employer also stands to benefit from a healthy sex life of the employees who are likely to be more productive and it should therefore be their business.

Let us start by discussing how to have quality sex life:

Looking good: this affects both men and women. Here I am talking about being psychologically confident that you look good. Given that sex is about showing our nakedness to our sex partner, it is important that we are confident that we are attractive. This takes good grooming and dressing up well according to our own style. When you have had a day feeling confident of your looks, then you are likely to enjoy your sex life.

Good diet: you need to have a diet that improves vitality and reduces lethargy. Nutrition experts recommend a diet that is high in fiber and less fat. This improves bowel function and reduces the effects of bad bacteria in the stomach. You would therefore have maximum energy efficiency that is necessary for an active sex life. After all, you need more than 150 calories of energy for an average 30 minute active sex.

Herbal formulas: it is true that certain herbal formulas such as gingsen root or damiana or morinda rots have ability to enhance the production of testosterone hormones and oxytocyn. These hormones are necessary to maintain a sex drive and orgasm.

Exercises: this is a must for both men and women. One benefit of effective exercises is that it keeps the body trim and therefore enhances a sexy look for both the man and the woman. This is also important because you need the muscles to enjoy a good sex, the man will be able to press on and penetrate with power as the woman’s virginal muscles are able to keep the pressure and hold to achieve a great and satisfying orgasm.

Deliberate work-life balance: a good sex life does not just come, it is built. This is especially a challenge for career people who often end up giving their life to their jobs and neglect the sex partner. A warning on this is that it will soon affect your productivity at work. Besides, you will need a quality sex life to work to your old age.

Now that we know how to have quality life, we need to keep the motivation by looking at some of the relationship between quality sex and healthy living

Longer youthful phase: it is proven that a quality sex life is likely to increase the hormones for growth such as dehydroepiandrogens (DHEA) and endorphins. This increases the ability of the body to repair itself from wear and tear and therefore maintain youthful shape.

Maintain good shape: the feel good effect that comes with satisfaction from healthy sex improves the skin tone and general look. Besides, the fact hat you loose more than 150 calories fro an average one moment of sex activity also helps your body to loose most of the excess weight and therefore you have a good shape.

Better sleep: if you have had a high end orgasm, then you know that this will make you sleep well. You will generally be able to relax the muscles and wake up more fresh.

Stress buster: you should make every effort to have a good quality sex even on the day when you feel most stressed. It is able to reduce the

Desire for more sex: given the above benefits of good sex, you naturally need to find ways of getting more of it. This is possible by simply getting have more sex. It is like the case of breastfeeding a baby, the more a mother does that, the more the milk is produced by the body.

Conclusion:

Quality sex begets quality life which is a prerequisite for good sex life. In other words, quality sex and quality life are so intertwined to the extent that you cannot have one and not the other. Given that life in itself does not have a rehearsal, why not enjoy it through a nature provided free gift of sex. The beauty of sex is that it is not an exhaustible resource. Besides, this is form of quality sex and life is best experienced in a long-term relationship such as marriage. This means that it comes with a sense of responsibility and the couples are able to enjoy it to old age. It therefore benefits the children as the family remains happy. Make deliberate efforts to enjoy your sex and life today.

Despite public awareness of the importance of practicing safe sex there is an ongoing reluctance, especially among older generations, to use condoms during intercourse but with a new product about to launch condoms may start appealing to a whole new demographic. Nicknamed the “Viagra condom” Futura Medical’s CSD500 maybe the best thing that’s happened to prophylactics in years.

The CSD500 is creating buzz by being the first contraceptive to aid men in keeping an erection. With most advances in birth control being targeted towards women most will be relieved that men will now have a more appealing option that will not only prevent unwanted pregnancy but also prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

The CSD500 is not being marketed for men that suffer from erectile dysfunction but rather men who specifically have trouble maintain an erection while using a condom. The condom is coated with a vasodilating gel that helps increase blood flow to the penis. Derived from a medication used to treat angina, a condition in which chest pains are experienced because an area of the heart is not receiving enough blood, the hardest part of developing the CSD was finding a way to keep the gel in place on the inside of the condom. Not only did they need to make sure that only the wearer of the condom would be affected but they had to develop a product that would not degrade the latex of the condom itself. Managing to conquer both these issues is what makes this product so unique and exciting.

Not only will this new product appeal to consumers but it could help reduce the spread of STDs as well. Not only will it help promote condom use but it will also reduce the number of incidents of a condom slipping off because of difficulty in maintaining an erection. In a recent survey by the Journal of Sexual Medicine it was revealed that in men over 50 less than 20% use a condom even with someone they’ve only recently met compare that will 80% of teenagers and it becomes readily apparent what generation condom manufacturers need to start appealing to.

Already in the final stages of approval in the United Kingdom the product may be available for sale within a year. Following its release Durex, who has licensing rights, could decide to apply for FDA approval making it available in America as well. With the ever growing popularity of products like Viagra and Cialis it’s clear that erectile aids are a hot commodity; don’t be surprised if the CSD500 starts showing up on store shelves in the near future.

It is common knowledge that depression can be a leading cause of erectile dysfunction but if you think Men don’t want to talk about their physical problems it probably won’t come as a surprise that they are even less likely to talk about their emotional ones. Often time’s depression is seen as a problem only affecting women and while statistically a greater number of women are afflicted, suicide is now the 9th leading cause of death in men over 40. Not only are men unwilling to talk about depression, their friends and doctors often times don’t recognize the symptoms that they exhibit.

Missing the Symptoms

In a study done in the 90’s men and women were asked to fill out a questionnaire and their primary doctors were asked to determine whether the patient was depressed. The results were shocking; men went undiagnosed 67% of the time. Culturally men have been raised to believe that they must act strong in all situations. Too often asking for help or wanting to talk about feelings is seen as a feminine behavior. Men tend to hide their feelings of sadness under a layer of bravado. Even when doctors suspect that there are underlying issues many admit that they don’t bring up the subject for fear of embarrassing their male patients. Even our conception about what depression looks like is off the mark for men. We know that symptoms of depression include becoming withdrawn and losing interest in things we used to enjoy, but often time’s male depression can manifest itself in a very different way.

(also read: Erectile Dysfunction linked to the Health of Your Heart)

Signs that the Man in Your Life is struggling with Depression

To compensate for feelings that cannot be addressed many men will turn to behaviors that are the opposite of the isolated quiet behavior we associate with depression. Some men will turn to work, putting in extra long hours. Others will engage is risky behavior like drugs, gambling, and extramarital affairs. Still others can develop a temper lashing out at family and picking fights with strangers. Finally depression has a list of physical symptoms that are often misdiagnosed. Headaches, fatigue, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and digestive problems are just a few of the ways depression can manifest itself in the body.

Ways to Deal with Male Depression

Often time’s men let depression go untreated for so long they may not even realize that their feelings aren’t normal, but without help depression is unlikely to go away on its own. Just because men are reluctant to seek help for depression it does not mean that help is unavailable. Therapy is not designed to be gender biased and if we can break through the stigma surrounding men opening up about their feelings talk therapy can be extremely helpful. When therapy is unsuccessful there are also many well tested and effective medications on the market to treat depression. Unfortunately until men feel that it is safe for them to set aside their bravado and open up about the things that trouble them too many will remain at risk from not only suicide but the consequences of risky coping behaviors. Male Depression isn’t just a man’s problem it affects our whole society so next time, before we pass off the drinking or the affair as a sign of a midlife crisis, we should look and see if there are underlying feelings of depression altering the behavior of the men we love.

There is a new birth control pill in development that is creating quite a buzz. Though much of the excitement comes from the fact that this pill seems to have no negative side effects and only has to be taken once every three months the real ground breaker is that this contraceptive is for men. Most of us immediately feel skepticism at the thought of male birth control but a new article in The Telegraph reveals how researchers in Israel believe that they may have finally found an alternative to the traditional female contraceptive pill.

For more than 40 years now birth control has given women numerous options to take control over their reproductive health. From rings, to pills, patches, to injections there has been a contraceptive for almost any need. Conversely men have always had 2 options; condoms or vasectomies. While birth control allowed women a new found sexual freedom it has not been without it’s risks. From “mild” side effects like mood swings, nausea, and irregular bleeding to much scarier health risks like blood clots, stroke, increased risks of certain cancers, heart attack and infertility, it’s no wonder so many women no longer wish to shoulder the contraceptive burden alone. If you are wondering why it’s taken so long for scientists to develop a male birth control pill there are a few key factors at play. First there has just been a general lack of interest on the part of pharmaceutical companies and the public hence very little funding has been made available. Second of all, up until now, men have been less than enthusiastic about taking over contraceptive duties, especially if there are any side effects involved. Thirdly there are basic physical reasons that have made male contraception harder to develop, picture trying to control millions of sperm rather than just one egg.

Up until now the only male contraceptive pills in development have used a combination of hormones to reduce sperm production but as with any hormone therapy the side effects acted as a large deterrent. Men would not only have to get regular shots of testosterone to compensate for the pills effects but could experience weight gain, depression, decreased libido, prostate gland problems, decreased muscle mass and even problems with facial hair growth. What makes the new pill so exciting is that rather than relying on hormones, researchers have discovered a molecule that can strip the sperm of a protein necessary for egg fertilization. It is believed that once fully developed the pill will be 100% effective, will have no negative side effects and will only need to be taken once every three months. At this stage of development the pill has only been tested in mice but the results are so encouraging that human trials should begin within a year and the product could be released on the market within 3.

Up until now, polls regarding men’s willingness to take birth control pills have been less than promising. Most men were not willing to take a pill that had sexual and physical side effects. On top of that most women polled did not trust their partners to remember to take an oral contraceptive on a daily basis. Developers believe that now that these two issues are resolved more men will be willing to take on contraceptive responsibility freeing women from the health risks and unpleasant side effects, that for almost half a century, they have had to endure.

With the popularity today of medications like Viagra men our becoming much more comfortable talking about erectile dysfunction than ever before but one conversation they may not be having is how ED can be directly linked to heart problems. ED has many causes both physical and emotional and as men age they become increasingly more likely to suffer difficulties getting and maintaining erections. According to research done by the Journal of Sexual Medicine by the time men reach their 40’s nearly 10% of them will be affected by ED this number goes up to nearly 30% by the time they reach their 60’s. ED is often the first indicator of heart problems because the arteries that carry blood to the penis are smaller than the arteries in the heart. If there is any narrowing or clogging these arteries will be affected first especially as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle. While there are many medications on the market that can improve ED symptoms there are lifestyle changes that can be made to improve both the health of your heart and your sex life.

Get Regular Exercise

Turns out what’s good for your heart is good for the rest of your body as well. Men who exercise regularly are about 15-30% less likely to suffer from ED than their more sedentary peers. Getting regular aerobic exercise will increase blood circulation in the body, keep your heart healthy, reduce your risk of prostate problems and improve erectile function.

Watch Your Weight

Overweight men who consume a diet high in fat and low in whole grains, fruit and vegetables are at a much greater risk for ED than their peers who maintain a healthy BMI. Obesity not only has a negative impact on blood flow in the body but is also known to lower a man’s testosterone another leading cause of erectile dysfunction.

Quit Smoking

More bad news for smokers, researchers have discovered that this group is 60% more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction than nonsmokers. Smoking causes blood vessels to constrict, reducing blood flow to all parts of the body. Bottom line the more cigarettes you smoke the worse it is for your heart and your erectile function.

Type II Diabetes

Nearly 50% of men with Type II diabetes suffer from erectile dysfunction. Diet and exercise play a key role in not only preventing diabetes but in preventing high blood pressure and high cholesterol as well.

Emotional Health is Just as Important as Physical Health

Stress, depression and fatigue can not only lead to erectile dysfunction but can also lower sex drive. It is believed that about 15% of all cases of ED can be attributed to emotional issues. Even low amounts of anxiety can trigger neurotransmitters that cause constriction in arteries and decreased blood flow to the penis. Since ED can also cause feelings of depression in men it is sometimes unclear which condition came first but the fact that the two are interlinked is undeniable.

The good news for men is that erectile dysfunction is not only treatable, through lifestyle changes and medications like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra but it can also send up a red flag that there are other health issues that need to be examined. Early detection is the key to improving the health of your heart so if you are experiencing ED don’t be afraid to discuss your health concerns with your doctor.

Zinc may be a trace mineral, but the important role that it plays in supporting prostate health has been well documented. The normal prostate in a human body is capable of accumulating the largest quantity of zinc in comparison with any soft tissues present within.

Medical research has found that zinc is of utmost importance when it comes to the proper functioning of prostates and also in the healthy activity of male hormones. This is also one of the major reasons why zinc is considered to be a “male mineral”.

The health of the prostate depends largely on the quantity of zinc present in the body. If the amount of zinc is sufficient, the function of the prostates is optimum. Zinc is also an essential component in seminal fluids and sperm. A deficiency in zinc can result in infertility and impotence. Furthermore, engaging yourself in excessive sexual activities can also result in the depletion of zinc stores.

BPH and Prostatitis
Deficiency in the level of zinc, especially in the prostate, can be the result of high stress levels or a sign that the body is fighting an infection. When a person is suffering from prostatitis, the level of zinc in the prostate is reduced to almost one tenth of the required level. This can also happen with increasing age. Zinc levels decrease considerably when men start growing older. When a man attains the age of fifty, the testosterone levels start decreasing and this leads to an increase in the levels of dihydroxytestosterone. This is commonly termed as DHT and is present in the prostate.

Prostate Cancer
Statistics of past few years have proved that Prostate cancer is now the most leading form of cancer among men in United States. Naturally, this is relatively high in men of an older age group as they are more likely to suffer from an abnormal growth of prostate cells. Research conducted in this area has highlighted that prostate glands suffering from cancer have lower levels of zinc in them when compared to normal prostate glands. Also, in some cases, it has been observed that an increased intake of zinc in the regular diet can effectively lower the risks of prostate cancer in men.
A research that was conducted in the Oregon State University has found out that the consumption of zinc rich foods during the early stages of cancer development is more advantageous if taken as a form of treatment.

Diet
Although the recommended daily allowance of zinc is set to 15 mg each day, there are actually very few men who reach this dietary goal. Zinc is found in a number of eatables such as pumpkin and sunflower seeds, wheat germ, wheat bran, onions, peas, nuts, gelatin, beans, lentils, only to name a few. If the amount of zinc is minimal in the soil in which it is grown, the food grown on it will have less zinc content. The process food that we eat from the market is refined, and is known to have minimal zinc content.

By Emily Murray

Whenever a headline has the scary words “heart attack” in them, people take notice. One that particularly caught my eye this morning was featured in TIME Healthland – “Infrequent Sex or Exercise Can Trigger Heart Attacks.” But don’t panic just yet, you don’t need to give up either of these things…in fact, doing both more regularly helps minimize the risk!

A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association added another dimension to the understanding we have about increased activity and heart attack risk. For some time now doctors (and out of shape exercisers alike) have realized that any activity which increases heart rate ups the likelihood of a heart attack. Now, in light of the new study, we know that this risk remains elevated during the hour after exertion. In fact, the study proved that in some people this risk can actually be 3.5 times higher during this time period after activity than when they are not active. To break this down further, during sex specifically, the risk is on average 2.7 times higher than any normal period of inactivity. General physical activity increases the rate of death resulting from heart attack by nearly 5 times.

Sounds terrible right? Well here is a comment from the study’s author Dr. Issa Dahabreh as reported in the TIME article to help put your mind at ease. ”We don’t want anyone to misinterpret our findings to mean there is an overall harm from exercise.” To further explain what this means, it’s important to note that exercise isn’t necessarily the cause, it’s when there is a sudden increase in activity. The more you work out and are active, the less of a shock it becomes on the body. He also suggests that people identify what their “triggers” are, or the activities that immediately get the heart racing.

The short-term risks of the immediate exercise (when done as part of a normal routine) actually are believed to be overridden by the overall long-term positive impact of maintaining a consistent workout schedule so for those who thought this might give them a free pass to skip working out, no such luck. If you consider yourself to live a fairly inactive lifestyle however, don’t jump right into a rigorous routine. It’s best to return back to activities at a moderate pace rather than jumping back into the gym…or the bedroom!

If you have limited mobility, returning to a moderate leveling of activity for your lifestyle may be as simple as taking a daily walk or climbing the stairs. However, as mentioned in the article, for some individuals even these seemingly low impact activities can be enough to elevate the heart attack risk and for this reason, a doctor should be part of developing a workout plan that is safe for your particular situation.

Now on to the part that probably initially caught your attention. Whether you think of it as such, sex is a strenuous activity for your heart and if you have heart problems this is likely a subject your should broach with your doctor. If your heart is healthy enough for sex and other exercise, you will be happy to know that studies prove a healthy sex life is good for not only your relationship, but for your mental well being too!

Guest Post by Thomas Egbert

Cleansing herbal teas are becoming increasingly popular for their aromatic flavors and healthful benefits. These teas are designed to cleanse the body of harmful toxins produced by free radicals and pollutants. Sipping a relaxing, soothing cup of tea can be even more enjoyable when the tea becomes part of a healthy diet. Among the cleansing herbal teas known for their medicinal properties are Rooibos Herbal Tea, Honeybush Tea, Tulsi Tea and other specific herbs added as cleansing ingredients.

Rooibos Herbal Tea is a member of the legume family and is often referred to as Red Bush or Red Tea. It grows northwest of Cape Town in South Africa. Rooibos Tea, a naturally decaffeinated tea, has become popular for its detoxifying properties. It is enjoyed for its sweet, nutty flavor and pleasant aroma. Rooibos (or Red Bush) is the tea made popular among reading groups because of its prominent place in The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency book series by Alexander McCall Smith.

Honeybush Tea, also in the legume family and a relative of rooibos, grows in South Africa as well. It is named for its sweet honey-like scent that makes it so appealing. It is considered valuable for slowing the aging process and preventing disease when consumed regularly. It has a mellow taste with sweet, spicy floral notes balanced with apricot and peach flavors. This tea may also be enjoyed by adding it to baked goods for a distinctive flavor.

Other herbs that are rich in antioxidants promote a healthy immune system. Adding them to rooibos and honeybush can be even more beneficial. These include juniper berries, marigold, chamomile, dandelion and rose hips. The juniper acts as a diuretic, and the marigold cleanses and detoxifies the body. Chamomile, dandelion and rose hip revitalize the liver and cleanse the bloodstream.

Tulsi Herbal Tea has been a part of Indian culture for thousands of years because of its many benefits. This pure herbal tea is naturally decaffeinated and has a mild sweet mint flavor. Current research shows that Tulsi Tea has numerous preventative and curative properties with its rich supply of antioxidants and other nutrients.

With the availability of cleansing herbal teas, tea drinkers can enjoy sampling all the different varieties. The soothing and restorative powers of tea have been known for many generations, and it is a welcome boon to be able to enjoy a cup of tea that cleanses the body while soothing the soul.

As the first few days of the work week pass with the new daylight saving time in place, many people are still stuck somewhere between the old time and the new. Perhaps one hour doesn’t feel like a lot, but for many it might be enough to throw their internal clock out of whack resulting in sleep deprivation among other health problems.

This concept was recently explored in a TIME Healthland article by Meredith Melnick. While the author sites sources explaining that most people cope with the time change fairly well, they also warn that for those with depression or a heart problem, the change can be slightly more significant. In fact, statistically, daylight saving time results in an elevated number of heart attacks and suicides. So what can you do to help ease the anxiety and get back to a normal sleeping pattern? Here are a five tricks for getting back on track.

1. Exercise
This concept is a pretty simple one, but as anyone who has started a new workout program knows, you are bound to be pretty excited about crawling into bed at night after a hard work out. The “feel good” chemicals that are released when exercising (endorphins) also contribute to a more positive mental state and is often effective (in addition to therapy) for those who suffer from depression.

Read: Study Reveal the Benefits of Exercise for Those Suffering from Insomnia

2. Read Before Bed
Reading in bed is an instant snooze trigger for many people and if you are not accustomed to it and are having difficulty sleeping, it may be worth a try. The material you choose to read however should also be thought out ahead of time. Perhaps, save those “can’t-put-the-book-down-until-I-have-read-every-page,” type novels for the daytime, but if you have something that is not as interesting to read, give it a try! Just avoid any stressful thrillers or horror novels before bed!

3. Stop Napping
If you aren’t sleeping well at night, chances are you are probably pretty groggy during the day. While it may be tempting to curl up in bed mid-afternoon, it’s best to wait and go to bed at your normal target time. When you snooze throughout the day, you are throwing off your body’s natural sleeping schedule and you need to train yourself to get back on course.

4. Avoid Caffeine
If you are currently in the habit of having a cup of coffee after dinner or soda with your meal, start cutting back your caffeine intake, especially towards the afternoon and evening hours.

5. Avoid sleeping with the Television on
This may seem like a trivial point, but many studies have now shown that those who sleep with the TV on can be negatively impacted by the light while they sleep and in some cases it can even contribute to obesity.

Read: Heart Health is Affected by Too Much TV

If you are still having sleeping difficulties and it is affecting your day-to-day performance, speak with a doctor to make sure you are following a healthy plan for your body.

Does anyone have any tricks of their own to help fall asleep?

Guest Post by John

Most of us know that fast food is not healthy…but why do we still line up at the nearest fast food outlet? Read on to find out just how much you didn’t know about the fast food industry.

1.	Fast food manufacturers don’t list all the ingredients.

Fast foods are prepared on high heat and it’s been suggested that they might even contain cancer-causing chemicals, apart from solvent residues, pesticides and other chemicals. The ingredient list will not display all the harmful things that the product contains. It’s important therefore to know how a product is made and what chemicals are added to it.

2.	Fast food companies spend an inordinate amount to sell unhealthy foods to kids.

Did you know that fast food companies actually spend billions of dollars into marketing campaigns targeting children? The figure they spend on television and online advertising is around 10 billion and all of it is to reach the kids. These companies cleverly use cute cartoon characters and free giveaways to attract kids to certain brands. Some companies promise free toys with the purchase of certain products while some other companies use popular animation and cartoon characters that represent justice and goodness to sponsor their junk food labels.

3.	Junk food producers tend to minimize health concerns that are associated with their products.

If you compare the results between an industry-sponsored health study and one sponsored by a junk food producer, you’ll find that the former is more honest and accurate. This is because a study sponsored by a junk food provider usually plays down the harmful aspects of its food. A study that the fast food industry funds is quite likely to be closer to advertising than it is to science.

4.	Manufacturers of junk food tend to donate money to scientific nutrition associations.

If ever there was a case of the wolf covering its own tracks, this must be it. What better way to keep the focus off its own malpractices than to donate money to nutrition and health associations? Coca-cola pays money to the American Dietetic Association to publish nutritional fact sheets. This sort of behavior is called food politics. On the outside, it looks very ethical but mostly it’s a self-serving act by junk food manufacturers, in a bid to gain positive perception.

5.	Additives in junk food compromise the endocrine system.

Many junk food companies add MonoSodium Glutamate (MSG) to their products. This chemical imbalances the endocrine system function, making people feel more hungry and therefore eat more food. MSG contributes directly to nationwide obesity and keeps these junk food companies in business. MSG is hidden in yeast extracts and hydrolyzed vegetable protein.

6.	Artificial colorings and refined carbohydrates cause ADHD in children.

This is a scientifically proven fact; in an experiment, several kids with ADHD were taken off processed foods. Eighty percent of these ADHD children were found free of ADHD in two weeks. If you find your kids are unusually hyperactive, feed them on wholesome home cooked food for a few weeks and see the difference.

7.	Aspartame causes many nervous system problems.

Aspartame poisoning is a well-known fact and yet millions of products come out each year containing aspartame. These products have a printed warning for those allergic to aspartame and nothing more. Aspartame actually causes seizures, migraines and several issues with the nervous system along with blurred vision.

8.	The plastic in which some food is packed is hazardous to health.

Plastics leak bisphenol A into food and people eat the food without realizing they’re actually absorbing a hormone disruptor. Food heated or stored in hot plastic containers will contain more of this chemical. Bisphenol is known to facilitate formation of male breasts and disrupt female hormones. This chemical is also suspected to contribute to prostate, breast and other hormone-related cancers.

9.	Food manufacturers pay more for the most visible shelves.

If you want to buy real quality food, head for the rear aisles. That’s where you’ll find food made by quality manufacturers whose products sell because they’re good and not because they’re advertised rigorously. It’s well known that popular food manufacturers buy front and visible shelf space to position their products to best effect.

10.	The less healthy the food, the better the profits.

When foods are processed to a high degree, the profit margin increases, while the nutrition decreases. Processed food is not wholesome and fresh. To increase profits, food manufacturers add other ingredients to the food to increase its size and weight. It’s better to eat whole foods such as an apple instead of opting for applesauce or juice.

11.	Trans fat or saturated fat, it’s still harmful fat.

Food labels sometimes replace ‘trans fat’ with ‘saturated fats’. From a fat perspective, both are dangerous. Just because of the recent hue and cry over trans fats, manufacturers now ensure that their products don’t mention this phrase. Bottom line – don’t trust labels, as they are an attempt to play off public perception.
12.	Packaged cereal is not exactly good for health.

Packaged cereal comes in many pretty colors and shapes. However, these shapes and colors are achieved by pushing slurry of grains through a machine, forcing them out of a hole, cutting them into shapes and spraying sugar and oil over it. During this process, the grains lose most of their nutrients. It’s better to cook whole grains and eat them rather than buy packaged cereals.John runs an online nursing scrub store where you can shop for men and women lab coats, scrub tops and sets.
